About SEF
Scott E Funnell, P.Eng
Scott has over 25 years of experience as a structural engineer and an even longer history of hands-on home renovation work. He has successfully designed, managed and completed hundreds of projects in both Canada and the U.S.
After completing his B.Eng and M.Eng in Ontario, Scott launched his structural engineering career in San Jose, California . He immediately became involved in residential design, with projects ranging from single-family custom homes to mid-rise timber framed condo buildings. Scott moved back to Ontario 20 years ago, eager to continue his successful engineering career at home.
As Senior Director in his former role, Scott managed the structural team in Ottawa, Gatineau, Eastern Ontario and Atlantic Canada. In addition to building and supporting his team of approximately 50 people, Scott still made time for the work he has always enjoyed and valued most: collaborating directly with clients on smaller scale projects.

Today, Scott focuses his expertise on those smaller scale projects - concentrating on those in the residential sector, but still enjoying work in the commercial and cultural spaces, with anything timber, and public art. Scott works directly with architects, artists and contractors, valuing real relationships with real people who are as passionate about their projects as he is.
Scott also finds it incredibly fulfilling working with homeowners, helping them improve, expand and reimagine their living spaces. Scott's passions of designing, problem solving, organizing and building all come together to provide clients with thoughtful, practical solutions for all of their project needs.
SEF House Works Services
SEF Design
SEF House Works provides structural engineering design services in the province of Ontario, focusing on residential: renovations, additions, and new builds. The level of effort can range from providing advice and guidance on an as-needed basis, to fully developed, sealed structural drawings for building permits.
SEF House Works will also help you with your non-residential projects, such as renovating or designing a commercial space, or assisting with public art installations.
SEF Build
SEF House Works provides construction services for residential projects such as exterior structures (porches, patios, sheds and fences), renovations, interior and exterior storage solutions, and custom cabinetry. SEF House Works can build from your plans, or work with you from the beginning of the project to help you lay out and design your new space.
And no project is too small! SEF House Works will happily help you repair your fence or deck, or even assemble your flat packed furniture. SEF House Works is located in Ottawa, but can travel for work.

SEF Inspect
SEF House Works combines engineering knowledge and hands-on effort to uncover and diagnose structural deficiencies in residential buildings and exterior structures. SEF House Works can then design and apply solutions for any issues that are uncovered.
